Process Work

As part of my portfolio, it was important to me that I include a demonstration of the process I go through on an art piece. From simple sketch to fully realized character, you can see the time, detail, and creativity that goes into the work.

Step-By-Step Walkthrough

Initial Sketch

I start with a loose sketch - I was inititally inspired by marble statues in Italy, which you can probably see the influence of here.

The Details

This is where the piece starts taking shape. I decided to add horns and other details to this particular piece - plus a spear!

Once I get everything sketched out and generally where I want it, I go in with cleaner lines (I tend to prefer a sketchy line style).

Lighting & Shadows

This is the point where I start blocking in color and values. I concentrated on creating strong light and dark points for contrast.

Additional Details & Color

At this stage I started playing around with the color palette - the red felt a bit too strong for me. Added other lighting details as well.

I finally landed on a blue/green-ish color scheme with tan undertones. I felt like the cooler palette suited her vibe. Now we're all done!
